Volunteers perform various agriculture-related duties at farms and private homes in the Midcoast region. These can include planting, weeding, and/or harvesting. Duties can also include washing and packing produce for distribution.
The Knox County Gleaners also pick up donated produce from various farms and private homes for distribution at sharing tables in the Midcoast region.
Volunteers for the Knox County Gleaners need to be able to meet the physical requirements associated with the specific task assigned (varies regularly), and be able to work without supervision. They should be willing to work in hot weather. The ability be bend over is essential. They need to show up when expected (this varies upon the task) and to work until the tasks are completed. Call-outs happen to all of us but an excessive number can create problems for the rest of the team. We’re unable to accommodate persistent no-shows with no notification.
