Come Spring Food Pantry is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) community food pantry located in Union, ME. We provide assistance to those experiencing food insecurity, ensuring access to fresh, nutritious meals for individuals and families in our community.
The Knox County Gleaners is also completely run by volunteers! So there are lots of opportunities to help. From in-pantry assistance, fundraising, and event planning to handyman work, construction, gleaning the fields, and more, we couldn’t do it without all of the time donated by our team.
If you’re interested in supporting Come Spring Food Pantry and/or the Knox County Gleaners by donating your time, please take a moment to check our Job Board to see what volunteer opportunities are currently available.
Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers
We don’t know what we’d do without our dedicated team of volunteers! They’re all so awesome we thought we should reserve this space to spotlight their dedication, and thank them for their care, and support. We hope you’ll return regularly to “meet” someone new and see all the ways our volunteers impact the community.
Volunteer Spotlight
We’ve told you how much we value our dedicated team of volunteers. Now we’d like to take this moment to shine the spotlight on another team member – in fact, she’s actually our longest serving volunteer – Tracy!!
Tracy started volunteering with Come Spring Food Pantry when it was housed in our founder’s home on Sennebec Road, well over 25 years ago. Today she usually runs our open pantry days which are the 1st Saturday and the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. It’s a rare day Tracy is absent on an open pantry day, in spite of holding down a full-time job outside of the pantry.
Running an open pantry day requires knowledge of all of the moving parts; and it is not a job for the faint of heart! But what makes Tracy so special here is her caring and concern for all of our neighbors. For a woman who claims that she is “bad with names”, it’s the rare person who comes in to an open pantry day who’s a stranger to Tracy. She cares deeply for each shopper and is often sought out for a private conversation. So it’s not surprising that she finds the most satisfying aspect of her volunteer work at the pantry to be the people she serves.
We like to say that Tracy is the beating heart of the pantry.
In the little spare time that she has, one can find Tracy enjoying time with her daughters and grandchildren – and, of course, her beloved cats! Thank you, Tracy, for all of the love, dedication, and compassion that you bring to Come Spring Food Pantry! We couldn’t do it without you.
We hope you enjoy the throwback photo of Tracy when we moved into our current location several years ago!
