There’s a few special farmers in the area that really take care of the pantry – one of them is Cheryl at Terra Optima farm in Appleton.
Cheryl recently donated 60 DOZEN eggs to CSFP, and in the fall she donated an ENTIRE Pig to the pantry! As you all know, finding affordable protein sources can be very difficult. But with Cheryl’s help, it’s a bit easier. We’re able to share locally raised meat and eggs with our neighbors because Cheryl has decided it’s important to help her community.
As you all also know, being a farmer is not easy! It’s not a grand money maker either. Most farmers we know love the land and feeding their community. And so they do things like donate 60 dozen eggs, or an entire pig to help ensure everyone has enough to eat – even though they may also be concerned about paying for a new tractor or compensating the vet for another visit to the barn.
With this in mind, if you ever have the opportunity to support her in return it continues the circle of generosity. She sells a range of locally raised meats and eggs, as well as operates a farm stand – Visit her facebook page to see all the tasty treats (eggs, meats, pies, cookies, cheeses, quiches, bread, milk, and more!) she has ready for you. You can also her lovely farm poems – which are fairly famous in our neck of the woods at this point!
We can’t really put into words how much Cheryl’s continued support means to all of us. Without her, and those like her, we really would not be able to do what we do.
